Puppets to Pixels
A five second product demo is an unlikely vehicle for character animation and we were thrilled to help bring these charming little pests to life.
Free Range designed three new characters to represent the microscopic versions of the allergens being highlighted in the spot. Each one needed to have it's own unique look, while also echoing the materials and features of the live action puppets.
The creatures were faithfully transposed from the approved 2D designs into 3D assets, complete with two different types of fur and hero grass components. The characters were animated with a focus on giving them their own personalities, each reacting to their peril in a motivated and distinct way.
The demo also called for some tricky dynamic elements. The environment was designed as a macro display of cloth being washed: thin fibers twisted into woven threads which moved fluidly throughout the demo. Originally embedded into the fabric, the dirt stain and all three allergen characters were simulated to burst into particles and finally dissolve away.
